The next Wednesday Advice Evening at The Polish Club takes place from 7.15pm to 9.00pm on 7 July. The club is at 507 Portswood Road , so172th. Help with form filling, benefits advice etc etc. Open to all people here from EU countries.
Our next Friday Advice Evening takes place on 23 July from 6pm to 8pm at George Williams House, YMCA Building , Cranbury Place SO14 0LG (near London Road and Inner Avenue ) Next date 16 April. If you’ve got a question or a problem, we’ll try to help.
Our playgroup at St Boniface Church, Shirley High Street happens each Tuesday morning.. If you have children under 5, or know people who have, it is a great place to come. It runs from 10am, and is open to all Eastern/Central European families. We also now can offer advice and form filling during these sessions, and there is a chance to exchange/buy/sell clothese and other items

EU Welcome requires Project/Outreach Worker to cover maternity leave
Hours either 22.5 or 30 per week.. Salary pro rata £17,500 per annum
Contract to begin 1 September and to last for 7 months.
The successful candidate will represent EU Welcome working with local agencies including Southampton City Council, Hampshire Police, Street Homelessness Prevention Team, Southampton Advice and Representation Centre, H2o and Twosaints Day Centres and Patrick House. He/she will also assist clients seeking advice though phone, e mail, our advice sessions, and on an individual basis.
Person specification;
Essential;
- Excellent level of English and Polish,
- A desire to help people from different backgrounds
- An understanding of life in UK
- A willingness to work flexibly and independently
- A team player
- A knowledge of Health and safety responsibilities
Desirable;
- The ability to speak another EU language
- Experience of working with people
- Knowledge of UK benefit system.

The Southampton Mela is an annual international arts and music festival that is taking place this year on Saturday 17 July at Hoglands Park in Central Southampton . Over the next few years we would like to see artists and musicians from EU countries performing there. This year EU Welcome will be there with a stall to display our booklets and other information. We’re looking for volunteers to help staff this for 2 hours during the day. If you can help, please contact us.

Update on Death of Wieslaw Filus
Detectives from the major crime team at Hulse Road have charged four people in connection with the death of Polish man, Wieslaw Filus, in Southampton . The charges come nine months after his death.Police launched a murder investigation after Mr Filus’ body was discovered on Saturday July 18, last year, in a bedsit in Denzil Avenue . Since then police have been undertaking a long and thorough investigation. Six men were arrested shortly afterwards in connection with the incident and have been on bail while police investigated. Four of those men have now been charged, one with
manslaughter. Officers say the investigation is continuing. They believe more than one person may be responsible for the death of Mr Filus. Last month they offered a £10,000 reward for information that helped them catch the killer or killers. Officers say that reward will still stand for any further significant information which leads to anyone else being charged with the death of Mr Filus. Anyone with information is asked to call the Operation Hopscotch Team at Hulse Road on 101. Polish speakers should call 02380 599969.
